How We Do It
How We Do It
Within each area, we have developed a
variety of proprietary services lines that utilize a strong foundation of tools,
templates and methods. For each client and project, we tailor the overall
approach with a project team that complements our clients’ personnel.
In many ways, our IT consulting services are somewhat analogous to those
provided by architecture / engineering (AE) firms and construction management
(CM) firms. These AE / CM firms deal primarily with tangible / physical
structures. In contrast, our clients’ primary concerns focus on improvements to
the intangible concept of information. To extend the analogy, in some situations
a client may simply want to remodel the kitchen within a house that is perfectly
functional in all other respects. In other situations, the client may need to
design and construct an entire building. The same diversity of project types
applies to IT initiatives as well.
For both information-oriented projects and physical projects, however, a
successful solution must effectively integrate the efforts from a variety of
disciplines and specialists. In the world of physical structures, this may
include masonry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, painting, carpentry, and project
management. For information technology projects, the analogous disciplines
might include requirements definition, process design, database design, software
coding / testing, training, and finally deployment.
Although there are many parallels to the world of construction projects, we
believe there is one critical difference that we refer to overall as “people.”
In a well designed building, the degree of “organizational buy-in and
acceptance” is not typically a key concern. For successful IT solutions
however, organizational buy-in and acceptance is critical. The reason for this
key difference is that information systems can only be as effective as the
processes they support and the people / organizations that use them. At
Avalion, we address this by always considering the business challenges first,
and then defining a tailored project team combined with a comprehensive approach
/ solution. This unique strategy has enabled us to consistently secure positive
references that demonstrate our ability to accelerate the promise of IT for each
of our clients.
Although we don’t use saws or drills or hammers, we have made substantial
investments in developing our proprietary intellectual property or “tools of the
IT trade”. The following provides a brief summary of our service areas.
